Hush, Hush Saga
Hiya, friends! This is a new style of review for me! Woo! I will be reviewing not just one, but four books in this review! What?! Four?! Yes, four, just like One Directions album title! So... without further ado...
Hush, Hush
Hello, and welcome to Nora Grey's life. Tucked away in Coldwater, Maine, Nora is slowly getting back on her feet after the death of her father. In her sophomore year of high school Nora and her BFF Vee Skye are ready to take on the world - the human world, I might add.
In traditional fashion, Nora is partnered with the dark and mysterious new kid in her biology class. Right off the bat I was a bit turned off by the first book because, really? That's how you introduce Patch?!?!?! Setting aside my irritation, I continued to read Becca Fitzpatrick's debut novel.
Diving further into the inevitable love story of Patch and Nora, I fell in love with Patch. He is not your typical dark bad boy with a bad rep. Oh no no. He's a freakin ANGEL! Are you kidding me?!?!?! Now, normally I don't enjoy reading fantasy or whatever... but this is something I simply had to read. Not because the writing was fantastic and reeled me in, but because I fell in heckin' love with Patchyboy.
As the book continued, the plot thickens and the angel world really drew me in. Between the Nephilim and the fallen angels and the archangels, I had my hands full trying to decipher who the good guys were and who the enemies were. Just when I thought I could trust someone, they turn out to be a bad guy with bad intentions! Each page held a new plot twist, and I literally could never tell what was to come next.
9/10!
Crescendo
The second book in this saga was even more captivating than the first. This book really hurts my feelings because it loves to mess with Patch and Nora. Tearing them apart until I'm about ready to dive into the book and make them run back to each other! However, Becca Fitzpatrick was not having it.
Nora's life was continuing to fall apart right in front of her. Her boyfriend was spending more and more time with her enemy, and she could not let the ghost of her father go. The central theme in Crescendo is really all about trying to find peace within the loss of a loved one. Nora spends much of her time trying to find the Black Hand and her fathers murderer. Of course, Becca Fitzpatrick had to use Mr. Grey's death to really mess with Nora and Patch. Not cool, Becca. Not cool at all.
Testing Nora even further, Becca Fitzpatrick decides to pair Nora with Marcie during their summer schooling. Can Nora catch a break? Definitely not. Marcie, being Marcie, toys with Nora and does her best to break her spirit. Marcie isn't the typical antagonist girl, she's the worst antagonist I've read about to date. She's manipulative and knows exactly what your achilles heel is and how she can use it to her advantage.
I would also like to say that Becca's middle name is most certainly Cliffhanger. Why? Read to the end of this book and you'll see what I mean.
10/10...
Silence
OH! MY! GOSH!
From the start, this book had my full attention. This book, in my opinion, is the most suspenseful of the four. I'm not joking, even the start of the book was intense. As was every single page in the book. I cannot write a lot about this book because I don't want to spoil it for anyone who intends to read this saga, but please know it is my favorite book of the four.
Silence holds a lot of drama and action. There were so many times I wished I could crawl into the book and tell Nora what the heck was going on around her. However, Nora could not hear me screaming at her...
Perhaps one the best parts of this book, to me, was the ending. It was half cliffhanger and half exactly what I needed to read. There is no turmoil for Nora and Patch's relationship thankfully. But that doesn't mean that the world around them wasn't about to cave in around them...
1000000/10
Finale
Holy goodness. This book is a tearjerker, page turner, and heart attack all in one. Seriously. It took me less than a day to read 450 pages. I was so hecking devoted to finding out what happened in the end of this saga that I couldn't help but stay up until 1 a.m. reading!
The best way I can think to describe this book is as if Nora and Patch are racing against time. With both the fallen angels and Nephilim on their backs, Natch have to fight their hearts out to win this war. What war, you might ask? Well I simply cannot tell you! You'll have to read the Hush, Hush saga and find out for yourself.
Out of all four books, this one had me in tears more than not. The relationships in Finale were built so strongly I couldn't bear to watch Fitzpatrick play them like her little puppets. I swear, my heart didn't stop racing until I finally put the book down and had time to sit and think about what I'd just read.
Finale, like the other three books, was filled with plot twists I truly did not see coming. I genuinely mean that. Becca Fitzpatrick had me fooled more often than I'd care to admit. Each chapter held a new up or down for Patch and Nora and I honestly wish this book could have gone on forever. All in all, this book also gains a
10/10!!
Ending Thoughts
I clearly love this saga. However, the writing produced by Becca Fitzpatrick leaves something to desire. I feel as though I could write this series. That being said, the characters are perfect. Fitzpatrick divulges just enough information about the characters to make you feel as though you know them.
HOWEVER. I cannot stand Nora Grey. She is selfish and quite frankly, the worst character in this book. Is this my love towards Patch that has created a hatred towards Nora? No. It is simply that Nora Grey is a horrible character and I wish I could have just read about Patch.
Now, lets talk about Patch. I love him.. did you know that? Fitzpatrick created the type of character that I could read about for days on end. Patch's life intrigues me. Who is he in allegiance with? Who is out to hurt him now? What's going to happen to him?! The possibilities are endless!! Not to mention, Patch is the best "boyfriend" I've read. He is not overbearing or cheesy, he is genuine and real. Ugh. I love him. He's also incredibly protective and I think that Fitzpatrick writes that wonderfully.
As a whole, this saga gets an 8/10. I love the story, but Fitzpatricks writing it truly nothing special. I'm pretty sure her writing style is what mine was in freshman year English. Not that that's a bad thing! She just... needs to tidy it up a bit. Write in a more mature fashion, perhaps. I do really really hope that Becca decides to follow up on the Natch relationship and where they are in the future. I think I would die of happiness. All in all, I highly recommend this saga to anyone simply because of the characters. Creating amazingly captivating characters seems to be Becca Fitzpatrick's strong suit.
Also, a good thing to mention is that this saga is such an easy read. While the story line can become twisted, the saga itself is incredibly easy to follow and quick to read. I read all four books in less than a week... However! I will fully admit to not having done anything but go to work and school and then come home to read about Patch and Nora. Still! My point stands that this is a really wonderful saga to read in a short period of time.
Make sure to pick up these four books at your local bookstore!!

Allie
